I used this book for a trip to Southern Baja in April of 2017. I looked at a lot of other guide books before the trip, and this is the most comprehensive and current one that I found. The recommendations were all solid for Cabo San Lucas specifically. None of the books including this one had very useful information about snorkling in Cabo Pulmo or things to see and do in Todos Santos, so I suggest supplementing the book with some internet research before you leave.

We are frequent visitors to the peninsula over the last 20 years both overland and flying into La Paz or Los Cabos. I found this book pretty much spot on. I am amazed at the thoroughness and knowledge the author has of the area...from the 24hr bakery in Tecate, to Coco's corner, to Rexi's beach bar in Los Barriles How in the world could she have done all this? With the caveat that things change from week to week and month to month everywhere on the planet, I recommend this travel guide "hands down".

Excellent, up to date, many insider hints and recommendations. A real gem of a travel guide.

This is super detailed on all the areas we will be traveling through. Everything from suggestions on routes, where to eat and detailed street maps of each town. I can imagine it will be indispensable on our baja road trip

Up to date book on traveling the Baja with accurate descriptions and suggestions about where to stay, eat and visit. Itineraries are provided and plenty of helpful tips.

The book started out with a jolt, moving on to develop the characters. That's when it began it's slide towards mediocrity. Luke was downright boring. I would imagine violins playing in my imagination as his character was developed.Ella was interesting in the beginning but in the middle of the story her personality did a 180. She became detestable, killing innocent people, Including children.The only enjoyable character came at the end of the story with the introduction of Dan Borowski.For me, I wish I hadn't plowed through it. There will never be enough time to read all of the good books we have to choose from.

A very sad story and quite strange. This reader has difficulty with the characters, they are poorly developed and the interactions between them is hazy at best. The "why" we do things is not developed at all. Bizarre.

How disappointing... a really gripping and riveting first 40 pages or so, then... deadness. Once they arrive in Switzerland the book is basically over. I nearly gave up reading several times, I kept expecting excitement to return, but it never did. The coldness of Ella, the still undeveloped ending explaining why things happened the way they did simply never occurred. I'm not sure it even rates 3 stars. I'm being generous because the beginning was so strong. But how did this get so many 4 and 5 stars?

Glad I only read a few reviews before I read this book .I enjoyed it. It wasn't my favorite Wignall book, but I did appreciate how he handled most of the characters .I did want to keep turning the pages. I went back and read all of the reviews to this date. The reviews have made me aware of how easy it is to spoil the book, for those who haven't read it yet. I'm going to be more careful in the future to reread my review before I submit it. If I wouldn't want to have this information before I read the book, I'm writing Spoiler Alert in the title of my review.

I didn't finish this book. I didn't like the back and forth between Ella's situation and Lucas's attempts at redemption with his daughter. Pick a plot and stick to it please! I especially didn't like the way Ella's personality took a turn in seeking revenge. About 2/3 of the way through I skipped through to the end to see what happened. Glad I didn't waste anymore time slogging through it.

I felt that this book was a lot shorter than the movie led us to believe. The movie can't have been memorable or i don't remember the ending. However the abrupt ending with the plot twist were a nice touch. There is great but short prose as if the author was writing a draft. He intentionally only develops the bare minimum characters required to tell his story.I wondered why 17 readers highlighted the introduction of the two lead detectives. I realise now that that was the fullest those two characters would be developed. In fact, the law detective is not seen again from that point.There was allusion to Luke's ability to influence police investigations. That plot line was either unexplored or removed.All in all this book read like one of those Wikipedia articles that tell you the entire movie but title the section, synopsis. I am glad there is a !love for this book otherwise it would monumentally suck.

This book strangely enough lacked humanity except from Lucas, the hired killer. The character of Ella did not seem well developed-going from tragedy to a complete change whereas the character of Lucas saw growth. There is a lot of violence but not much warmth and emotions, lacked adequate plot development. Left me cold.

Treading carefully with her tone, she said, "Lucas?" She caught his eyes in the rearview and felt confident enough to proceed. "Why did you shoot him in the head?" "He was wearing body armor." "How do you know?" "Because he didn't bleed enough when I shot him the first time."Ella Hatto and Stephen Lucas (FOR THE DOGS)The above snippet of conversation between Ella and Lucas gives you an idea of what kind of man Lucas is. He's well-read, introspective, dispassionate, and deadly. Too, he is trying to retire from being a "killer for hire" and hoping to live a normal life. The kind of life he could have had with Madeleine, the only woman he has ever truly loved, and the daughter he has never seen.FOR THE DOGS is interesting in that the reader is drawn into the story and sees the gradual transformation of both Ella and Lucas, the two main characters. He finds what he needs. She gets what she deserves, and more.This is the first book by Kevin Wignall I've read and will soon begin reading his debut novel PEOPLE DIE. While I am a big fan of Stephen Leather's action packed books, Wignall could become one of my favorite British writers.

This book provides the best synthesis to date of (a) empirical findings from psychology and (b) user-centered design-thinking for products based on information technology. Content-wise this book gets it right. However, there is one stylistic issue that detracts from its strengths. The author explains that he wanted to write the as if the content is being stated by 'we', the population of potential users, to a target reader conceived as a product designer or manager who most needs to be enlightened by this information. But this technique fails in practice, causing more awkwardness and confusion than clarity. The problem is that the author is describing complex concepts and findings from scientific research in psychology, with a highly technical, sophisticated vocabulary. It therefore fails any sense of fittingness or plausibility that 'we' the mass of all users would have — or even care about — such specialized knowledge that is needed by designers, but not by us as users. It also makes the author sound like an inauthentic politician, or a kind of aspiring bureaucratic 'expert' who believes his specialized knowledge authorizes him to speak for mass populations. But the bottom line is, as noted above, that the content is excellent, and the author has provided great value to designers with it.

As a recent college graduate with a BS in Psychology and a minor and Computer Science, I can say that this book brought a lot of real-world insight to how we can apply simple psychological concepts in the design everyday products to make our daily use of applications, websites, and overall technology a productive and intuitive addition to our lives rather than a burden or something inefficient one has to struggle through to get the end result.If you are debating getting this book, just do it! The amount of insight in Bottlenecks is immeasurable. The structure and language is extremely easy to absorb as David (author) covers dense psychological and design principles. The way he applies one to the other and shows the reader through examples we have lived through or struggled with really allows the concepts to sync with readers more easily than other similar books.The perspective this book has is unique but very important. I found the content immensely invaluable - I have been and will continue to share what I've learned in Bottlenecks with peers, family, and those in my workspace.Thank you, David, for creating an easily digestible book with such important content!

As a UX Research professional with a background in marketing research and social science, I truly appreciate this book. Using a unique voice, the author is able to balance complex academic/scientific concepts with practical business/real-world examples. One of my favorite takeaways is a gentle reminder that the human mind has particular psychological limitations (as described so well in the book) that should be more widely considered when designing interactive digital experiences. The author does a great job of expressing to product managers, developers, researchers and designers what end-users can't necessarily articulate in usability studies or surveys... That the success of a product or service experience can be greatly increased by having a deeper understanding of the natural psychological shortcomings of users while on their journey - and reducing associated pitfalls along the way. This book gives you that deeper understanding, and thus, helps you become a more human-centered designer.

Each chapter is very focused on a specific topic with enough information to get your brain going on how you might test the theories on your own products. A fun read even with deep topics like Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and Erik Erikson's Life Questions. Highly recommend this for anyone hoping to design products that will bring value to people's lives!
