Towards the end of the book strasberg wrote some interesting observations about talent and how most actors do not get to mature their talents due to commercial reasons. It’s interesting to note his observations are about many different art forms other than acting - directing - playwriting and film were enriching. Overall I have to agree an artist is cultivated like wine.

I'm a seasoned veteran actor. I've been acting for 25 years and after having studied all the other methods for years each one (Meisner (William Esper in NY), Adler (Stella Adler LA), Improvisation (Groundlings and Second City), Straberg (Strasberg Institute LA), Micheal Chehkov) I have very happily renewed my vows to the Strasberg Method.My reasoning is as follows:1. Strasberg Method is all about working from your past. You first experience something, ex. shooting with a gun, and then re-create it through the senses on-stage. Other techniques, such as the Adler technique, will make you go to the imagination and imagine what a gun would feel like and then go on-stage. The fact is, YOUR MEMORY WILL ALWAYS BE STRONGER THAN YOUR IMAGINATION, giving it an additional layer of reality.2. The most amount of Oscar winners in history have been Strasberg trained or believe in Affective Memory. This is a clear fact and should speak for itself.a. Jack Nicholson 3b. Al Pacino 2c. Ellen Burstyn 1d. Anne Bancroft 1e. Daniel Day-Lewis 3f. Tom Hanks 2g. Meryl Streep 3 (She studied at Yale when Bobby Lewis was there and in his book "Advice to the Players" he wrote about Sense Memory and Affective Memory)etc. etc.3. To me personally, there is nothing better than to watch a Strasberg person on Film/TV. This is of course an opinion, however it is clearly true to me. Every time I see someone that I really like, I will go on imdb and/or Wikipedia and find out that they are Strasberg trained.This book was refreshing in many ways. I know Lorrie and Diane Hull from LA and Lorrie's book (Strasberg's Method) is considered by many to be "the bible" on Strasberg. Lorrie is not only a PhD in Education but served as Lee Strasberg's right hand assistant and teacher for 20 years. Her book is invaluable. It is almost a manual stating every step of the Strasberg Method.However, Lola Cohen's book, to me, completes the circle. She closes many of the gaps that are present in Hull's book. For example, there is no real mention (in Hull's book) on how to actually speak your lines. She will give you tips on memorizing, etc. but not on how to deliver your lines.All in all, I highly recommend Lola's book to anyone interested in Strasberg's Method or acting for that matter. And, by the way, I have never met her nor am I affiliated with her in any way (unfortunately for me since I would love to not only meet her but to study with her).Good Luck!

Don’t you just love those books that you buy for a single niche purpose, but instead literally take over your life for a time? This is one of those books. I am a stage actor in Charleston, looking for work and practicing the techniques I already know, when I stumble upon this. Now, hands down, the best book for acting you could ever look for would be Stella Adler: The Art of Acting, but I choose to read books with heathen techniques in them just to see what a good teacher sees as a good actor. Anyways, I picked up this book to better my work ethic and see things a little more clearly as an actor. Lo and behold, I found myself with many sleepless nights WRITING. I hadn’t written anything for leisure since I moved to Charleston, but now, my God, I wake up and wonder what can I do? I read poetry for the first time in my life and try, time and time again to do better work than the work I did before. I recommend this book to any and everyone. It’s a book that working a creative office should own.

I've been reading a lot of the technique books recently and this one obviously gives a lot of insight into the birth of "The Method." I think it accomplishes that to a fair degree. I wish there was more detail concerning the exercises though.

If you are considering purchasing this book, I assume you are already familiar with the Walking Dead. This hardcover collection is my favorite way to read and collect the series. It saves so much room versus buying single issues or the trade paperbacks. The beautiful hardcover protects the stores and ensures they will last for a while. Each volume contains 12 comics as well as some rare artwork and commentary from Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard. I love how these look on my shelf and I would recommend them to ANY Walking Dead fan, whether you are brand new to the comics, or already own single issues or trade paperbacks.....these are THE way to collect, read, and enjoy them!!

I got the kindle version and it was hard to read the larger panels on my small phone screen. It was perfectly fine on a larger tablet.If you are a fan of the show and haven't read this, I will warn you that there are substantial differences. It is as if a drunk person explained the plot of the comic books to the screenwriter in a loud bar, and them the screenwriter wrote the show from memory a month later. This is to say that the 'highlights' from the comics made it to the show, but it is still a different story.People are on here trying to review this with deep literary analysis techniques, as if this were Shakespear or Proust or something. This is a comic about zombies. There are many like it, but this is the best one.If you like the show, you will like the comics. I promise. They complement each other, but are different enough to warrant spending time on both.

I bought this after watching the first 7 seasons of the TV show (and being severely disappointed with it from about season 4 onward), and it’s GREAT. I’m so grateful that the TV show inspired me to check out the comic, because the comic is better in many ways—but also, it’s different enough from the TV show that it’s engaging even from the pure plot and character development perspective, since people and events diverge so frequently from what I expect from watching the series.I’ve ordered (but not yet received) the next two volumes of the compendia [shifts glasses up nose], based on how good this volume is. Already, there are so many things that are different from the series, that I’m on the edge of my seat just wondering how things can possibly turn out here.HUGE SPOILERS for those who don’t care about surprises but want to get a sense of how different the comic is from the series: So there’s no Daryl, Merle, or Beth; Sophia, Lori, and Dale live but Carol dies; Carol is a needy sex freak; Rick loses his right hand early on; Michonne shacks up with Tyreese, Andrea shacks up with Dale; they never use the term “walkers” but DO discuss terminology periodically; Glenn isn’t a virgin at the beginning.

I've purchased all volumes up to 22 and the TV show has just about caught up to wear I am in the novels. These books are friggen awesome. I don't read much and my buddy lent me VOL 1 after he knew I liked the show. Well, I burned through the first one and then just went on a tear buying 4 volumes at a time...the price is pretty good for what you get out of these. $9-$15 is the range I've paid per novel, I'm not sure why they aren't the same but anyways, I keep buying them none the less. The story was written before the TV Show and the show follows the story but there is some differences. The written story is more violent and graphic then the tv show but the tv show does a decent job of sticking with main ideas. I've noticed that certain plot things that happen in the book also happen in the show but there is a unique twist like a different character it happens to or something like that. Which makes reading these volumes great cuz I have some idea of where the story is going (after having watched all tv episodes) but there are still surprises. If you like the TV show and haven't read these, give it a try and you will get a whole new experience of the Walking Dead story. I'm putting this same review under every volume I've purchased (1-22) so people can see it. go buy these!

I can't wait til the hubby is done with these so I can actually read them. We are fanatic TWD watchers and I finally got a chance to check these off on his Christmas list!!! He isn't a very big reader , but oh my goodness he read through these so fast!! and the entire time I had to tell him to stop telling me parts cause I wanted to read them, he said that they are um a little more "informative" than the show, so I would say NSFK's, which im really happy that he read them first and we know not to hand them over, we even feel uncomfortable giving them to our 15yo. I got him books 1&2 and plan on working on getting him a set of 2 twice a year. I would suggest getting them after you've watched the show only because if you read them first you might be a little disappointed that some things don't happen in the show that happen in the book. But if reading after the watching the show it gives a little more depth to most of the scenes. overall im happy with my purchase and plan on getting more

I get excited every year they put another one of the Omnibuses out. The artwork is phenomenal, and the inclusion of additional covers, sketches, and other drawings at the end is a welcomed finish. It is a big heavy book, so definitely designed as a collector's item. Highly recommended.Update: anyone know if #7 is coming out? These have been perfectly timed in the past to come out around the holidays and this year, nothin.Update: I contacted a distributor and they said while they don't have an official release date for Omnibus 7, they estimated sometime in July/August 2017

I read a lot of history, including Armenian history. This was one of the finest books I have read in a long time. I would highly recommend it to anyone, Armenian or non-Armenian. It was beautifully written and thoughtfully constructed. It reads smoothly and, at the same time, is highly informative and fascinating. Steven ‘book a month’ Zaloga has here put together #231 of the Osprey New Vanguard series which focusses on the railway guns of World War 2. This book follows the basic premise of all this long running series of books in that it is quite concise, provides a basic overview of the topic at hand and then a step by step observation of some of the details. These books are great for the armchair military buff as they are usually replete with plenty of black and white photographs and a number of colour plates. This volume is no different, plenty of photographs being spread about through the book and the illustrations coming from Peter Dennis.The volume moves from a mere extended paragraph of an introduction and then delves straight into a discussion of French railway guns, thence onto the Belgians, the Germans, the Italians, the Soviets and thence to Finland, Japan, Britain and the US in that order. Tables of information are useful in terms of numbers and some of the technical data. Also some of the national entries contain some information regarding the use of the weapons in actual combat. The author isn’t wearing rose-coloured glasses in terms of his subject matter and discussion of some of the costs in terms of money and manpower are discussed. As are the chronic accuracy issues these large weapons seemed to suffer from.These New Vanguard books are great for modellers and the like given the number of photographs and drawings. And the question posed by this volume is will we be seeing a similar volume on railway guns of World War 1. It is to be hoped so as they would provide an interesting triptych when combined with the volume on Armoured Trains.If you have an interest in the subject at all but are not wanting to get one of the more specialised volumes on the market (check the bibliography) then this is a good work to get.

An excellent overview of all of the railroad guns used by all of the different nations in WWII. This is not an in-depth study of any particular gun, but a series of profiles of what each country had or built in the way of railway guns for WWII. This will not be that useful to people that have accumulated large amounts of specific data, but for someone just getting into railway guns, it is and EXCELLENT introduction, and will give a clear path to research for any particular railgun they may be interested in. I became interested in the German 28cm K5(E). guns built by Krupp and Hanomag, and this provided a LOT of explanations and information that I could use to begin my research.

Excellent osprey book on this subject covers each type of rail gun from design and operational use. Book has many pictures and is easy to follow and read. Each gun uses and deployment is covered and what happened to each type. Interesting book on the German uses of captured rail guns captured from the French.

All of Zaloga's books are great and this one is no exception. It gives coverage enough to let you decide which area you would want to investigate in depth.I am a railroad fanatic both in the real road and the hobby world. This book could be of interest to train lovers looking for something different to model.

Much less information than I hoped for. This thin book covers the railway guns of every nation. If it had been just on Germany it might have been about right. The drawing comparing the Dora to a K5 and a Tiger I was interesting.

Pretty good for a 48 - page book. It discusses German, French, Soviet / Russian, US, and British railway artillery and that of some relatively minor countries such as Finland, Italy, and Belgium. Perhaps not too surprisingly, the most detailed discussions are on German and French railroad artillery. There is also some fairly detailed discussion Russian / Soviet railroad artillery. The text covering British and American railroad artillery was pretty shallow, I thought. The coverage of Russian / Soviet artillery offers much new information that I had never read before, although photos of the major large caliber (305 mm) guns was sparse. My biggest disappointment was that the large caliber 340 mm, 370 mm, 400 mm, and 520 mm heavy French railroad artillery only received a few sentences of discussion and little information was offered on the performance characteristics of the either guns or the mountings. Very little information was provided on the American and British 14 - inch, 16 - inch, and 18 - inch artillery. Fortunately, other books exist that provide more detailed discussions of those guns.

A nice little overview of the Rail guns used in WW 2. I liked other books in this series, this one is no exception. From the giant DORA, an GUSTOV, to the famous Anzio Annie type the author covers the weapons by nation and type. Well written and illustrated, this book is a good edition to any WW 2 library.

~4/5We don't get too much actual volleyball in this volume. The team has to prepare for the training camp in Tokyo, but first they have to deal with exams. And there are a good few who do not excel in school. Somewhat surprisingly, Kageyama struggles with school, and unsurprisingly so does Shoyo. They're both awful. But everyone works together to study and memorize and do their best on the coming finals.During this, we meet a new character. Yachi is a first year, and she's trying out for their manager, since the third-years will be leaving soon. She's very hesitant, but she's smart and crafty. I think she'll fit in rather well. Her and Shoyo are already forming a friendship, unsurprisingly.Kageyama and Shoyo get to meet the star of Shiratorizawa in this volume, and it's an odd stand-off. It leads to the training camp, where everyone is putting their all into being better. I was surprised that we're not getting too much actual in-game volleyball during this, but more character growth and relationship progression. Shoyo in particular seems to be taking a step forward.Another new character we meet is Ryunosuke's older sister. She's feisty and a fighter, and I like her. She gives Shoyo a surprising insight into the original “Little Giant”. I didn't actually put much thought into the two meeting at any point, but it seems to be hinted at a couple times here. That should be interesting, even if it doesn't happen for a while.I'm very into this series by this point. V9 gives us a reprieve from the intense volleyball prefectural tournament of the previous volume to focus on character development and evolution. This evolution spans both new characters as well as old characters. It was a well executed experience that made for actual swift reading.For new characters, Yachi was introduced as someone who naively followed Shimizu into exploring what the Karasuno volleyball club was about. Her quick interaction with her fellow first years was shown to seeming inspire her continue to pursue the club. Thankfully her interaction with Hinata brought about a moment of growth for Yachi which still, to this day, remains one of my favorite set of chapters in the manga (Villager B).For old characters, Hinata and Kageyama realized just how far they were behind the other teams. This was highlighted in a well executed set of panels in which they had a discussion with the best in their prefecture, Ushiwaka. Ushiwaka likened Karasuno to that of a barren cement plot, while other teams or individuals were a rich, lush bountiful garden full of flowers ready to be harvested. It was amazing.I think one of the best parts of this volume was the artwork. Furudate really hit it out of the park with the page spreads constantly. The panel with Ushiwaka was actually the most iconic in the volume. Another page spread with Hinata on the poster from Yachi was another extremely memorable and well drawn page, shame about the spine interrupting a few of these.Overall, the plot, both discussed here but also the parts not discussed (including the start of the next arc, a training camp) was on point. It moved at a great pace. It also showed that Furudate can keep the manga interesting even when the characters are not knee deep in a tournament.The art was amazing as well.~Extras this volume included the usual drawings and comments on the pages between chapters. Unfortunately there was no afterword or omake/bonus pages~

For a FCBD this was awesome! I loved the eclectic cast of characters. Some new, some old, some re-cast. Really great group. It's 10 pages longThe comic devoted more time to the younger generation of avenger wanna-bees, which I actually preferred. Kamala and Miles are two of my favorite characters and they get plenty of panel time here.We get to see how well these guys all work together and what they need to work on. There's plenty of action for the fanbois, but enough character development for me as well.I'm not an inhumans comic reader, but even I liked this one. It was straight forward and interesting. The ending totally freaked me out though. I know Johnny Storm is a player, but yeesh.

This was a promotional comic given away on Free Comic Book Day 2015. It has two stories in it. The first outing of a new group of Avengers and the start of the Inhumans.The good thing about this comic is that it does provide a nice introduction to the new series. But since the series really started in 2014, they are not really new. Also, these are are more teaser than full fledged stories. Since it is free (and new to me at least), I really enjoyed it. I like things like this since I no longer have a source of monthly comics convenient. It gives me a chance to look at a series without purchasing a graphic novel collection.

Definitely needs to be longer. When did comics become so short? Work it Mark! Oh, and thanks. Lol! Archie and Riverdale needed updating to the 21st century.

Great introduction to this new avenger series fun and witty like the personalities and enjoyed the art style and qwerky attitudes!

I like the two different stories in this comic because it outlines different character stories and their purpose as a team!

Good stories, but too short. I haven't read comic books in years. These stories were good, the art was well done. The only thing wrong was that they were just too short.
