Sometimes accessibility is an issue. Not for this book. The pages are crisp and clean and very easy for kids and ADULTS to follow. My favorite part so far about this book is how easy it is to understand. My kids and I can learn this together. A cool feature in this book is you also get instructional videos. The videos take the lessons off the page and make them interactive to keep your kids' attention and bring music to life for them. I'm attaching some pages of the sample just to show you easy it is.

This is a great book for learning the guitar. The pictures were big and bright, easy for a kid to follow along. I also enjoyed the interactive videos, as well as the starter songs. There's even a section where you can write your own song, which is a thoughtful thing to include to encourage a child's creativity. It teaches you string by string, and then moves you up to basic chords. A good beginning place for starting out with your kids.

I bought this one and several other for my kids to learn how to play the guitar. They are getting decent fast.

I’m enjoying using this method for young kids. I have two using it, and they both really like it and are responding well to it. Better than I thought and I’ve tried a few other methods. I wish I’d found it sooner.

Nice. Really nice. As you open the pages, you'll see full traditional watercolor paintings of the castle, the backgrounds, and everything. The first part are character designs and sketches, then more to the finer ones, then movie stills. The latter part includes some digital enhancements on the movie. Plus of course, the movie script. This artbook is really a good find, I tell you. Although I must say, Spirited Away's Artbook is much better; but this is still as good as it can get. Of course, it's Studio Ghibli! :)

Not bad, the text part is interesting but if you buy this kind of books for the concept art and visual development of the movie, don't buy it, this one has very little production design visuals and most of the pictures are just stills from the movie.

I loved this book. The prints were gorgeous and the concept art was great. However, the one I got there was no glue binding on the spine and it was absolutely ruined. I ordered a replacement and I Got another one with no glue on the binding! I WANT this book but I really wish Amazon would simply open the book's cover and check it before sending it off to me.

I adore Howl's Moving Castle, it holds the top animated film spot for me (so perhaps I have some bias?) It was wonderful seeing all of the storyboards and stories behind the planning and execution that brought the original novel to a new movie format. Gorgeously illustrated throughout, with the full movie script at the end. Highly recommend for fans of Hayao Miyazaki or any Studio Ghibli film collector!

I first watched Miyazaki's Howl's Moving Castle a few years back and really enjoyed it. Over the years I have periodically watched it again and each time I see it my appreciation for movie's storytelling power and visual beauty grows stronger.This is a fun, beautiful film that takes place in a wonderous alternate universe that's Japanese anime meets steampunk Austro-Hungarian fairytale.The Art of Howl's Moving Castle is a book compilation of various drawings made by the animation team from concept sketches to final cells. All of the drawings are stunning to look at, but what may be of more interest to the movie's aficionados are the corresponding commentary about the moviemaking process by team members such as art director Yoji Takeshige, background artist Kazuo Oga, and so on.The bulk of the book also functions as a basic storyboard, but the last third or so is the actual final screenplay.Studio Ghibli Library has published quite a few companion books to their movies, but The Art of Howl's Moving Castle remains one of the strongest in the set due to the aforementioned commentary.Definitely a worthwhile book for any artist, animator or Miyazaki fan.

If you've purchased any of the other Studio Ghibli Library titles you know what to expect from this title, The Art of Howl's Moving Castle. The book is in Japanese, but it doesn't matter much as only the first 5 pages are in Japanese and the rest of the book is just pictures. It's over 400 pages and nothing but layout designs (as the title suggests) from all the Miyazaki films. Gorgeous.

The book looks awesome. The artwork is spectacular (its Ghibli so of course it is) and the information in the book was interesting, it was cool to see the process they went through to make the movie. Only problem I have is a tear on the front inside cover of the book? (Not sure if that’s the right description so I’m including a photo. That’s the only reason I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5). Overall I would highly recommend this book :)

This was a must have book for me since Howl’s Moving Castle is my favorite. Yes, there are tons on movie stills, but I still love it. The 4 stars is for the manufacturer’s choice of poor book spine design. Have no idea why they went the route of not gluing the spine to the harcover. So I now feel like i have to be super careful with it. Still keeping it, but a forewarning...they’re all like that before you return one and re-order another.

Like most books of this type--essentially "inspirational" quotes and explications of the same--there's going to be hits and misses. How much this book appeals will depend on how often you connect to the chosen quotes. (I, for one, was never much of a video game player so reference to Final Fantasy and the like mean nothing to me.) Fortunately, there's enough of a cross-section of popular movies, books, TV, comic books, science/computer nerdspeak, and stand-up comedy that the more obscure references go down much easier.Of course, those more obscure references are probably some measure of how much of a geek a reader actually is. I was not too surprised that I recognized that vast majority of the quotes here. I was more surprised at how often I was pleased to find quotes I knew really well, even some obscure ones. You expect quotes from Orwell, Dune, LOTR, Star Wars, Star Trek, The Twilight Zone, etc., but Meg Murry's quote from A Wrinkle in Time ("Like and equal are not the same thing at all.") has been rattling around in my brain ever since I read the book in grade school and I was especially pleased to find it here. It was also nice for someone who's been cheerleading for Doctor Who for 30+ years to find him quoted a few times, along with a brief analysis on why his popularity is finally surging.Ultimately this is a fun little volume whether you read it straight through or dip into it from time to time. There's plenty of "geek wisdom" in the quotes themselves as well as the brief paragraphs that accompany them. And don't forget to check out the footnotes, which are often the best part of each entry. Perfect for the geek in all of us.

This is a collection of "aphorisms" from iconic parts of nerd culture (Star Wars, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, etc.) with some "wise" explanation added by the editor to help make some kind of cohesive nerd philosophy. I bought it for a discussion on American geek culture, and I found that while it was a pleasant and funny diversion, it isn't really a collection of particularly substantive insight.It's a fun read, and you'll enjoy it, but I don't think "wisdom" really fits the book here. This is more of an opportunity to laugh and maybe see a new angle on some old favorite movie moments. I wasn't too crazy about it, but it killed some time and you might enjoy it.

Considering what it means to grow up as a nerd, this book rings true in every word and piece of knowledge it brings. It conveys messages that non-geeks might pass off as another meme to be repeated ad-nauseum and reveals the hidden means behind it, sometimes revealing a way of looking at the words that you didn't think of before.And probably best of all, the book has absolutely none of the prejudices that one might expect. It talks about what it means to be a geek girl with stunning accuracy, has a range of quotes from all different types of geekdom, and tells us that no matter who we are, geek or jock, we all face the same issues and problems and deal with them in similar ways.As it is the messages might not strike a chord with everyone who reads it, but for the ones it does reach it reaches with clarity. It's something that people should read just to see what it is they take away from it.

If you ever get confused at all your friends "inside jokes/movie/TV/character references" then this is the book for you. Also if you are the friend confusing everyone else this book will make you laugh out loud to yourself. I highly recommend it for light reading and entertainment on a cloudy day. Or just before any kind of "Nerd" party :)

Bought this for my brother who is autistic. He loves it! It's full of movie quotes and pop culture references that are just fantastic! A lot of it is just an explanation for a lot of the quotes I hear around conventions and online. Really, if you have a fan of TV tropes, this is a fantastic gift for them! As well as trivia lovers.

Gave as a holiday gift. The book is great for anyone who is a true lover of movies and books from the genre. Had enteries for any you could think of!

I have mixed feelings about this book. Some serious time was spent on parts of it, and some of the maxim/chapters make truly excellent points. And there are some really useful or meaningful ideas. BUT THEN their are other chapters. There are several incorrectly attributed quotes. Several inaccuracies. And lots of personal opinions on how to interpret each chosen meme or quotation. While everyone is welcome to interpret things as their paradigm suggests, remember the claw, a real geek will remember that a bit of research is helpful. As someone who inhales science fiction and writes professionally; and who is also married into a family that knew Carl Sagan (babysat his kids) and Rod Serling (were his neighbors) personally, I can note at least two major errors in this book. Serling definitely was not the reason The Twilight Zone was so seminal for example...unless you want to credit him with herding cats like Harry Harrison, Damon Knight, Richard Matheson, and Harlan Ellison (spelling?), of course. And Sagan was far more immensely human than implied. Other items seem to be randomly chosen as filler and lack logic much less profundity. So giving this three stars here. Feel free to read this for the good bits but maybe do a bit of research on your own.

Geek Wisdom is a super neat book filled with all kinds of "nerdy" information. The information ranges from movies to TV shows to Video Games and even toys and memorabilia. Awesome grab for any nerd.

I'm very familiar with Dr. Stanley Malamed's Local Anesthesia handbook since I was a student in USC School of Dentistry where Dr. Malamed taught and trained me in Local Anesthesia. Time and again afetr practicing for 25 years I go back to this book for reference. The new edition is again a wonderful and comprehensive textbook that every dentist and dental student should have in their library. Dr. Malamed has not left anything unexplained clearly in the science of local anesthesia. Most of all the accompanying DVD ia a fantastic reference that will refine any clinician's skills.

When the school told me the book my dentist had given me was way too outdated for the course, I had to move fast and get something newer. I got in in just a few days. Way before the estimated delivery date which gave me extra study time. I chose the book and DVD combo to help me absorb it all quicker. I love, love it!! The course is in 2 weeks and I feel prepared enough to pass the pre-test.
