I like this book but-- I expected more instant recipes about a third of this book is slow cooking and doesn't help me at all. I have many slow cooker recipes and I didn't expect so many in this book. The recipes are good but not what I expected.

This cookbook is nothing at all what I thought it would be. There is absolutely no rhyme or reason how it’s put together and I found the recipes extremely complex with some ingredients I’ve never even heard of. I would return this book if it didn’t cost half the value to do so, therefore I will put it on as shelf to collect dust. Very disappointed with this item,

the hard cover might be good but the kindel version is a pain getting around

Many, many recipes are really just Slow Cooker recipes included because many instapots have that feature. All of the recipes I was first interested in making were based on Crock pots, and I did not get an instapot to cook food for 8 hours.

If you are reading this review know that this book overproduces when it comes to the amount of value placed in one book. The yummy slow cooker potato recipe was my favorite I made so far and plan on making as many as possible!

I have done a lot of pruning and tree trimming over the years. Recently we moved to an entirely different climate zone with plant I am less familiar with. I saw reviews for this book and decided to purchase it as a reference book. For me it is a waste of time and money. The first 24 pages is the authors philosepy on plants and never gets to the point. After that the book is too broad to really learn much.If you have never pruned a thing in your life, it may be OK. Otherwise, it is a waste. You'd be much better off checking online or YouTube to get some info on the specific plants you intend to prune.

I purchased this book knowing little about pruning but clearly had over an acre of stuff that really needed it. This is a good book for those that want a basic summary and not too much detail and that works fine for me. However, it gets 4 stars because I now have something to compare it to. I recently picked up a pruning book by the American Horticultural Society American Horticultural Society Pruning & Training (American Horticultural Society Practical Guides) at a yard sale and it's by far the better book but it does offer a lot more detail than some may want. It's in color while this book is B&W and the color pics are of some help and it gets 5 stars. Strangely, both books are at odds with each other on several subjects of interest to me such as to when the optimum time to prune is for grapes, lilacs and fruit trees. I'm in the high desert with hot summers, long cold winters and freeze dates in May & September pretty much the norm. I find it pretty ambiguous when a book states to prune something in mid-winter but not when it's so cold that it may be too cold sap loss from a grape cold be too much... and that was in both books. I honestly can't say one is better than the other but I find now that having both is better. If I had to recommend one over the other the American Horticultural Society book would have to be the one.

It's a pretty good all around pruning book. It has a lot of pictures. I was looking for one that had a little more about just pruning fruit trees. Since then, I've been able to attend a couple of pruning classes and that seems to have taught me more than the book. If you know absolutely nothing, it's a good resource but I was looking for more info. I'd really suggest looking for some pruning classes. I've learned a lot in the last five years and not only from classes but just from trial and error.

This was a required book for a basic pruning class toward my Horticulture degree and I must say that it is well worth keeping after the course is finished. Pruning may seem like a simple task to someone who has never taken a class, but once you learn proper technique you can quickly recognize improper technique when gazing upon any tree you see.It's an engaging read that makes you want to keep going and it presents the information in such a simple way that it would be difficult to see why anyone would make improper cuts after reading it.I recommend this book to students and horticulture enthusiasts who want to learn more about pruning.

Good backup guide, with instructions about how and when to prune a wide variety of trees and shrubs. Not as comprehensive in my opinion as the updated American Horticultural Society Pruning and Training book, but it does provide a good resource and it is clear and concise. I tend to use both books together and use this book as the "second opinion."

I have a small yard. I wanted fruit trees but needed to know if I would be able to handle them and keep them in check. This book was just what I was looking for. When I went to the local nursery they were amazed how I was going to prune them and save over half the price of buying the trees all ready pruned to shape (columnar). I really am excited about all of the different plants and trees that are talked about in this book. It is a real great find.

Great book on general pruning for pretty much any plant or tree you're likely to find in the USA. I bought it for apple tree pruning and found it very good. There are numerous line drawings that get the point across, although I would have liked to have had a couple of actual photos of trees needing pruning, during pruning and after pruning. I also would appreciate a *brief* description and photo of which buds are leaves and which are fruit (there's a reference in there but either it's too vague or I'm too dense :)Well worth the money IMO.

This is my review for new book of Ahmed Lotfy Rashed – “Islamic Law, Theology and Practice”. I always like to stress that Ahmed was my teacher on Islam 101. He send me advanced copy of this book, but because of my traveling to Europe I put my review very late. As all his previous books this book is very interesting too. Why not? The book based on dialogues of real people. It is always interesting. Do you like to go to “dry” lecture or “very live” discussions? I like real exchange of opinions. This book made it. My suggestion is – to give copy of this book to all new people in mosque.“Many think differently, feel differently, seeking God or meeting God in different ways. In this crowd, in this range of religions, there is only one certainty that we have for all: we are all children of God,” Pope Francis said in his message, released Jan. 6, the feast of the Epiphany.“There is no god but God” - the beginning of the shahada, the Muslim profession of faith (just the first part). This is Theology, and Ahmed is trying to explain all difficult issues. After September 11, 2001 we are started to use new term "clash of civilizations," by Samuel Huntington. Do we really see clash of civilizations, or this is new brainwashing tool to use for dividing world between different groups. Reverend Franklin Graham — son of Billy Graham and former spiritual adviser to the American president, George W. Bush, publicly called Islam "an evil and wicked religion." This entry in the What Would A Muslim Say series remains informative, engaging, and insightful, and shares a good variety of the mind-spaces people come from when exploring/examining another faith. Ahmed shares his complete email conversations with people who are doing precisely what the series title says - his correspondents have chosen to engage with a real live Muslim, and find out how he can justify or explain his beliefs.A confirmed atheist, a thought-provoking philosopher, and a sincere seeker each ask their questions of the author with a different attitude. I enjoyed the philosopher's exchange the most - his comments and questions were friendly and touched with humor, and it was fun to see Ahmed discuss his own ideas and feelings instead of fixing his answers in references and historical context. Rather than dilute his message regarding the reality of his faith, these personal comments helped me gain a deeper appreciation for the book series as a whole.It seems that most of us gain what understanding we have through twitter-length soundbites anymore, and I really enjoy being privy to earnest conversations where difficult questions are directly addressed and discussed in an atmosphere of respect. This volume in particular addresses some immediate and pressing concerns about Islam, and the answers are shared in an easily understood way demonstrating the author's compassion, scholarship, and (many times) superhuman patience.

Ahmed Lofty Rashed's new book is in three sections. It answers both commonly asked questions and extremely complex questions with ease and grace. Ahmed Rashed starts the book answering difficult questions from an atheist theologian and a philosopher, who challenge the basic principles outlined in the Holy Qur'an. Rashed patiently elaborates and references passages in the Qur'an to shed light on common misconceptions. The third section answers questions from a person looking to understand the more practical aspects of Islam in the Qur'an. In this section, Rashed clearly addresses doubts and concerns expressed by many people approaching Islam. I highly recommend this book for readers seeking answers to a wide range of questions about Islam.

Joy provides insights into a culture that is very different from the West from her own lengthy experiences in North Korea. Having lived in South Korea for nearly 15 years out of the last 30 years (first arrived in 1987), I can attest to these cultural differences. It was also heartening to read how caring and loving relationships can bring change to even high levels of jurisdiction--especially the treatment of children with disabilities. Very insightful book.

Joy Yoon, an American humanitarian worker, gives the West an enlightening and timely glimpse into the life and culture of the enigmatic North Korea. Through personal stories and observations, she traces the historical, political, and social worldview of North Koreans and reveals the secret to working effectively in the land once called the "Hermit Kingdom."

Joy Yoon’s descriptions of her personal experiences with North Koreans is also surprisingly practical in my own life. This book opens up the possibilities of what might be plausible if we just try to understand other people’s points of view. And it demonstrates how this new understanding can lead to unimaginable breakthroughs in the midst of difficult circumstances, even with North Korea.

I am delighted to write a review about this outstanding book. Having been in South Korea for nearly thirty years, I am mostly aware of the Korean culture and history. However, this book enriched, increased and expanded my knowledge of the North Korean culture. Joy Yoon has a deep understanding of the naturof the Korean people and goes beyond the political aspect getting to the heart of the matter. She and her husband have established a trust and acceptance that is Christ like. Anyone reading "Discovering Joy" will not only become more knowledgeable of the North Korean culture but will marvel at the way Sang and Joy have touched the lives of the North Korean people.

Our family lived and served in S. Korea for 36 years and were interested to read her perspective on the north.

This book is a must read if one is seriously concerned about the welfare of the North Korean people. However, I offer a "spoiler alert." It is not the usual highly dramatized saga of the pain and suffering these hearty people endure. Rather, it is a straightforward accounting of one couple who intentionally made a decision to live among them, getting to know them in genuine, heartfelt ways, one day at a time, one person at a time. Through the difficult task of humbling themselves and developing trust, they came to believe that reconciliation can happen--thus, the title of the book: "Discovering Joy."

From the first chapter, my heart was totally engaged with Joy's narrative of their family's experiences and encounters in North Korea. In the middle of intense political drama, it's important to have books and stories like this that remind us that we are all just human beings with ability to love past walls and misunderstandings. Also, I appreciated learning more about the country and people ~ history and perspective. Highly recommend this book!

What is it really like to live inside North Korea for a decade as a foreigner and more so as a white woman, mom, and humanitarian worker? This is a book that really makes you think about yourself and the way that your mind portrays certain situations. It helps to understand the origins of anger in your head and helps to find ways to alleviate the actions that go along with anger.The activities in the workbook are a great way to see situations that you were involved in from a different perspective. In doing the activities you can have a further understanding of how to approach similar situations better in the future.Even if anger is not an issue for you, this is still a good activity book to be sure that you manager your overall emotions and feelings in a manner that is helpful to yourself and others.

I was not into doing this at all. After breaking an expensive laptop due to anger my wife bought it anyways. I am pleasantly surprised. I am not following it perfectly but just the activities and reading the main points have really opened my eyes to my anger issues. I find many of these things I’m doing with out even realizeing it. When I read it I immediately look at my wife and say OMG this is exactly what I do. It makes you feel awful to read and have to process what your actually doing and hurting your loved ones. I would recommend this to any man even if they think they don’t have anger issues. We’ve never had and major marriage issues. This book with help you strengthen and bring you and your partner closer together anyways. It may be very tough but it really helps to open up to them and just tell them everything. It has definitely brought us closer together!

There should be an option for more stars.This was written in a manner and in details that hit me directly. With every section I grew a better understanding of myself and my relationship with anger. I wouldn't guarantee that it will help everyone, but it has helped me, and given me the tools to continue to help myself.Thank you Aaron Karmin, I understand myself more now, and with practice will continue to be able to make things better!

Absolutely essential book to understanding anger. The book is accurate in Aaron's view of anger, how most people cope, and makes you think about the past in the present, doing a good soul search within yourself, and use techniques to manage your anger, and not manage others for your own self health.

The book gives excellent examples of why we as men get mad. But for me gives very little insight into how to really start making headway towards calmness. I did enjoy the information expressed, however.

Found this book to be minimally helpful. Very little in here I didn't know. The cognitive part I already have, its actually putting it into practice that is difficult. This book presented very little that I found helpful for dealing with anger in the volatile moment of real world experience.

The book is ok but too short...it doesnt go over enoigh types of anger and how to deal with each type...it gives mental insight on anger but hardly anything for dealing with anger.

What I liked about the book is that it recognised anger as a real emotion to be understood and not suppressed. It is true also as this book entails that many of our emotional states have origins in our childhood. It is very difficult indeed to dust off this mirror of the past and recognise that those childhood experiences that we disliked the most when our parents got angry, are the same ways that we are doing to our own children, repeating what should have been stopped.
