I paid my way through grad school taking pictures--thank you Stan Lee and Peter Parker for that idea--and one of the things that helped my photography the most was "How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way" because it had a focus on dynamic action angles. You drop on your knee, spread out on the ground, get that dynamic angle that screams "ACTION!!!!"In this they did that thing where they trace photos, but the photos aren't pro, they are flat, so all the action is flat, and the comic becomes stale. It looks good, certainly more realistic, but there is little dynamic and nothing dramatic about the art and that means it instantly loses the comic feel.A bad artist with good angles would be a better choice than page after page of flatness.

I grew up with Vampi, Uncle Creepy and Cousin Eerie, as well as a host of other similar publications as a kid and teen, but eventually grew out of them - notice I didn't say "grew up", because the propensity and weakness for such things really never goes away, no matter how old we get. It's always there, lurking in the recesses and quagmire of our inner psyche, and bubbles back up to the surface in later years, usually when a 'memory trigger' has been pulled.Decades later, I stumble upon Dark Horse editions of the beautifully bound Creepy and Eerie Archives and, lo and behold, memory triggers fired off, and soon enough I've got a shelf of them, along with several Vampirella Archives from Dynamite. So now I look into this collection of their Master Series and thanks to Amazon's great 'Look Inside' feature, I've now got three of these as well. I'm not 'into' comics anymore, for whatever reason (probably the comic art), but the neorealist artwork grabbed me immediately and, after reading this one, the stories are surprisingly solid and have substance I initially didn't think they would. One of those rare times when it feels good to be wrong, I guess.'Master Series' Volume Three presents us with the three-part 'Nowheresville' saga along with the two-part 'Fear of Mirrors', both exceptional tales with superb artwork. These stories would appeal to any TV fans of 'Supernatural', 'Angel' or 'Buffy', as well as Vampi aficionados, new or old. My favorite is the 'Nowheresville' story, as each part contains a writing style full of depth, twists, sarcasm and contemporary cultural references, along with the sexiest badass good-girl vampire ever committed to paper and pen. You can't go wrong with this edition; the artwork's astonishing and tales are top-tier.So take a trip to 'Nowheresville' - it's someplace special.

Bought this book for my teenage son to read up on Vampires that don't sparkle. He took the book to his room, locked the door and no one has seen or heard from him since. The only real indicator that he is in there still is the tied sock on the door knob.

Nice artwork. Stories are just OK. Not what i remember when i was younger. But the main character is pretty cool.

The weakest of the 4 volumes. But still well worth the cost and time to read. Panel to panel flows well, but a lot of double page formats means some smaller font sometimes, but this is balanced by a more decompressed storytelling style. Comics have been decompressing steadily since the seventies, but Millar, Morrison, Bendis, and Ellis took it to new levels. That means the storytelling is more cinematic with larger panels, no exposition and tighter dialogue. But this approach is well suited to the digital age. As far as this particular entry...good story, but a little light on detail and suffers some awkward genre blending. However, Millar infuses it with his trademark one liners and shock scenes. You can see the beginnings of the tough girl character that he would go on to perfect as Hitgirl in the very popular Kickass. The art is painted in a photo realistic style, but done very well. Still, it's Vampirella, so what? Were you expecting an Eisner award winner? It's a tough character to write and these four masters volumes are the best of the Harris publishing years. This one just offers a little less than the others but is still worth the price of admission.

Okay, let me start off by saying this may be a 4 star book and not a 5 star book like I rated it...but some guy rated this book 2 stars because his book was wet when he got it, and that is not a fair way to review this book and it messes with the rating average so I am just evening the rating out. With all that being said, this is definetely a very fun and entertaining book to read. Some readers may be dissapointed to see that Mark Millar only wrote the first half of this book. The second story arc is written by John Smith and is a pretty solid story, although not as good as the Mark Millar story. The artwork throughout the book is done by Mike Mayhew and is breathtaking at times. The artwork is done with in a realist style and the characters often times look very realistic. This is the first time I have experienced Mayhew's artwork and I defintely enjoyed it. All in all, if you are a Vampirella fan or Mark Millar fan already or if you just enjoy watching hot chicks kick a!@, this book is worth checking out.

Well, apart from some very nice alternate covers at the end, this was total trash. And Vampirella shouldn't be too hard to get right.Volume one (Grant Morrison) was awesome. Volume two (Warren Ellis) was OK.This...
