Only used it for Cape Cod so far but has been really easy to read and spot gems to visit.

Great book to use while planning a vacation. Lots of good info packed into one place.

Good travel guide for Boston based vacations covers much of the New England areas too

Great detail and lays forth all the options for new visitors to NE area.

Really helpful for traveling and sightseeing.

The book isn’t very detailed and only talks about things to see on a certain itenerary. Disappointing, but there are some good points too.

This is not your ordinary guide book that mechanically describes things to do or places to visit. Jen Rose Smith's evocative prose paints a picture that invites you into each town, restaurant, hike, or brewery, in a way that you feel you want to jump in your car and go visit. I checked out some areas that I had already visited to read how she described them, and she captured the essence of the places -- consider Nantucket, "With cobblestone streets and misty beaches, pretty Nantucket is a dreamy world unto itself, a tiny curve of sand that points out to the sea." Or Oak Bluffs, Martha's Vineyard, "Walking through Oak Bluffs' gingerbread cottages and brightly painted homes feels like a glimpse of a different New England, when charismatic preachers packed enthusiastic crowds into summertime revivals." Or Stockbridge, MA (love this description), "On quiet summer mornings before the tour buses arrive, the quaint town of Stockbridge looks unchanged by the half-century that's passed since Norman Rockwell captured its postage-stamp downtown in Main Street, Stockbridge, and you could easily use the painting to find your way around the historic center." Not only is her writing beautiful, the book is practically laid out with maps, lists of restaurants, sports and recreation activities, accommodations, shopping and the like. I appreciate that she gives guidance if you only have a day or two to explore an area. I don't know how she captured the essence of every place described, but she did. This is the book to get, carry in your backpack or leave a copy in your car. Dog-ear the pages, love it up, because you are going to have this one for years!
