I'm a big fan of the .hack franchise, and this book (along with the "Legend of the Twilight" series) were among my least favorite, perhaps because they targeted a much younger audience. Big fans will still want it because it includes a description of "The One Sin," an event frequently referred to elsewhere in the series; and if you're younger, it's not a bad starting point to get into the franchise.Casual fans might want to skip this, though, and go straight for the second "AI Buster" book, which is a collection of short stories. (This is a single long story.)Note that this is NOT manga, it is a text story.

This novel is a prequel to the .hack anime, games, and manga. It is set shortly before the anime, Sign, and tells the story of Albireo, a player in very popular online role-playing game The World, and the mysterious AI girl he encounters in a dungeon.Albireo is a solo adventurer in The World -- he is proud to have gotten his character to a high level playing on his own. One day while playing the game, he encounters a silent little girl in red, Lycoris, who is a NPC (non-player character, or AI). Meeting her activates an event that he is determined to finish. Shortly after, he runs into an annoying newbie player, Hokuto, who knows nothing about the right way to play the game. Alibreo is desperate to get rid of Hokuto, but she blackmails him into playing with her. So Albireo is forced to try to complete the Lycoris event with annoying Hokuto following him around. Along the way he uncovers some surprising truths about how The World really works.As a fan of the other .hack stories (the games, animes, and manga), I was very glad to see this novel translated into English. It gives a more detailed backstory for the creation of The World and helps set the scene for the events that take place in the later stories. I'd highly recommend this novel to all .hack fans, and if you're new to The World, this is a great book to start with.

Well...unlike the other person, I actually had read the book. I'm both a .hack//fan, anime fan and gamer fan so...this book seemed to suit me.For all who are .hack//fans, this book takes place before .hack//sign and the games, this is during the time when Orca and Balmung were not that well known, but it's also the time when they became the legends they are in the series that are out. It's got a few other characters as well, a new one never seen else where, Albireo, who is also the main character, and Hokuto, another main character. Albireo, is a very experience player, he was in during the beta verison of the game, Fragment. He is a very high level, and might even to be considered as high as or a little higher then Orca and Balmung. He usually solos areas and got very strong that way. Hokuto, is a newbie to the world. With only a weeks worth of experience, she makes a lot of mistakes through out the story. She is also to be considered to be around junior-high or high-school because of her obnoxious attitude. She is a very fun character to read however, and many of the interactions with her and Albireo give a good laugh. They also come across a small little girl, not to be confused with Aura, she is described and in some of the pictures, looks a lot like her, but one thing sets them apart is both her name, Lycoris and her red dress. Lycoris, is a varient AI, and needed Albireo's help to find the items she scattered, to hide from someone.This is probably one of the best reading material, for people who are new to .hack or mmorpgs. There is a lot of explanation in it, from NPCs to how the world is played. But, it still has the same .hack action that is loved by all fans.I enjoyed this book a lot, and couldn't let it down till I finished. I would recommend this to any .hack//fan (this has a lot of answers to a couple of questions, scattered throughout the series, but it also provides new questions to ponder), any RPG fan (it's pretty fun, I thought to read a book about a fantasy mmorpg.), anyone who has not seen any .hack or has seen a few episodes/played the game a couple of times (tons of explanation, terms and that, that can help you understand what's going on in the .hack series), any fan of an anime with both comedy and action (this is so much like a manga, but with a lot more explanation to it and less pictures....but there still are a couple of very nice pictures in it) and to anyone who wants to read a very good fantasy novel.This is also a nice novel to see what an mmorpg is really like. Albiero explains a lot of stuff relating to mmorpgs, seeming that not all fans are hardcore players.So, pick it up if your intrested in games, .hack, or anime. Very nice book, and quite addicting once you get close into it.I'm very eager to see the next one as well.

This story...is one that brings me to tears every time I read it. Chronologically it is the first story in the .hack Timeline, and as such several elements in it are not seen in the main games and Sign.however, it's event shave greater connotations for the franchise as a whole, and if you are at all interested in .hack and it's greater franchise mythos, it is not one to miss.

While her descriptions and use of words are her strength, other elements of the book work against her. Here's a quick rundown, without spoilers:THE PLOT – Kalinda, a member of the Sisterhood, is chosen by the current Rajah as his hundredth wife.Proving yourself in battle is necessary, both in the Sisterhood and at the palace. Everyone vies to be elevated, higher ranks determined by victory in the ring.Everything about this story screams predictability. Unfortunately, the author never recognizes the danger and continues to steer the reader in that direction. It is obvious that Kalinda will have feelings for the young soldier, Deven, just as it is obvious he feels the same way. What makes little sense is that Deven understands the world as it is, yet immediately breaks convention and is willing to risk his life by granting favors to Kalinda. The rules dictating death to a queen who is unfaithful never causes Kalinda to waiver from her infatuation with Deven. Once in the palace, Kalinda faces the expected danger from her Sisterhood rival Natesa as well as Lakia, first among the Rajah’s wives.THE WRITING – This is the author’s five-star strength. The description is consistent, and reflects a time of long ago. Ms. King’s elegant style deftly describes the action, weaving pictures that effortlessly wrap the reader in the story.THE WORLD – One wishes for more details describing Kalinda’s world of religion and male dominance. While there was enough to keep me interested, I wished for more.IN CASE YOU WANTED TO KNOW – Ms. King steers away from using any sort of foul language, and you could read this story to a child without worry. Sex is non-existent, and though sexual tension is present, nothing is written that would make you blush.OVERALL – The writing is strong, and almost makes one forget that the plot is unremarkable. Images of The Hunger Games flit constantly, casting a pall over the originality of the tale. While Kalinda’s character is best defined, many of the others are one-dimensional, including Natesa, Deven, and Lakia. Motivations are reduced to one reason rather than a myriad of choices, which lessens the reader’s engagement. I did find Ms. King’s use of words and consistency of style to be enough to keep me reading. However, this is a three-and-a-half star book at best, and though the talented description of the action is strong, the lack of developed characters prevent the total ranking from reaching four.

At around 60% into this book, I had to revisit Amazon and Goodreads to make sure I was reading the right book. This book has such high ratings and received so much praise but I didn't enjoy it. I felt that it wasn't successful as a historical fiction and it was predictable as a romance. That said, I don't think it was terrible, just... an average romance novel. I think my disappointment came because it has such a high rating that I was expecting something of better quality - if it hadn't been on that pedestal, I think it would have been acceptably okay for the genre.While several reviews have criticized world building, I thought that was passable. There wasn't anything of Sumerian mythology beyond the names of the gods - everything was made up to suit the plot. So if you think, as I thought, that the story would build on what we know of the mythology to create its plot, you'll be disappointed. The myth underlying the story wasn't clearly told - important parts would be told just before they helped the story so that it felt like the author was making it up as she went along but eventually I understood it. There were a few other things that kept taking me out of the story, namely the use of books. At a time when parchment would have been very expensive and rare, if it existed at all, the main character has a sketchbook, ordinary soldiers keep diaries, etc. The guest room has a book case of books that can be slammed shut - no one uses scrolls in this place.Several reviews have also complained about characters being undeveloped. I don't know - they weren't completely one dimensional - they had positive and negative characteristics... there were some incomplete and inconsistent backstories but then, the story is told from one character's point of view so of course she doesn't know everything. Plus, maybe the characters were really meant to be that careless, annoying and stupid.There were no plot twists - I figured things out chapters before they were revealed and I'm not one of those intuitive geniuses who always figures it out. I like to let the story unfold. This one was just so predictable that there were no surprises.So I can't really recommend this book and I definitely won't be reading on, but I didn't think it was any worse than the average romance novel... just not any better either.

Hi Rick,I've done the first induction five times now, and the second induction three times. Each time I enter the trance state definitely seems MUCH DEEPER, as promised. I will start working with the third induction tomorrow.I've had a lot of trouble sleeping over the past few years, mostly due to work related stress. I travel A LOT for work and things ALWAYS go wrong on the projects I'm given. I really want to do something different, and I sincerely believe that the first induction has been helpful in calming me down and helping me sleep at night. I don't do the induction in my bed, I use a chair as you recommend in the book...but even doing it in the afternoon after work seems to help me sleep later at night. I can't wait to start the 'installation' phase.I also want to comment on all of the 1 star Amazon reviews, specifically those that deal with the audio being unavailable. I always read those first to see if the low rating is legitimate or opinionated. I've found at least 3 different ways to receive the inductions (and you even emailed the links to me yourself!), and it is VERY clear in the text that we customers can contact you for assistance. To be honest, I've never written to an author before, but I love that I can! Even more-so that you ENCOURAGE it!I'm editing out some of my previous comments regarding the one-star reviews, because maybe there was a problem at one time and it was solved before I bought the book. I DO feel that the recordings are extremely helpful, and I don't think I would have made as much progress if I had recorded the inductions myself.I had trouble using the Kindle for the MP3's (which we covered in a previous email and you recommended 'syncing' with a computer), but it still took me no longer than 15 minutes to find a streaming version and get started with the first induction. I did not have difficulty reading the book on the Kindle. I have also downloaded the files to play on my laptop. Maybe it was a legitimate problem in the past and I could be totally wrong about the one star reviewers' experiences, but I had NO trouble getting access to the scripts.I was also surprised that I received a personal email response within 12 hours, considering that you are about 7 hours ahead of me (I'm in Kansas, USA, Central Time Zone). I know a couple of the emails were 'form' emails, but I also know that you genuinely had to sit down and type some things directly to me as well. I thank you for not being unreachable.Your material easily deserves five stars, and your exemplary customer service is off the charts! Thank you so much, and I really appreciate both the book and the excellent customer service! Using the first induction to help me relax and sleep is worth the price of the book alone, in my opinion.Based on my experience so far, I'm really thinking of taking a certification myself, it would be nice to change careers and do something to help people, instead of working with industrial equipment and feeling beat-up all the time. Before I happened across this book, I hadn't really given much thought to self-hypnosis, believing myself to be a well-adjusted adult who wasn't in need of such things. But from the first page, I was intrigued and just had to find out more. The clear explanations and instructions given make it quite a page turner, for a non-fiction book, and I was amazed at the range of situations that the 'System' could be used for.The ease with which the scripts can be obtained, from the author's website directly on to a phone, tablet or PC, make it easy to get started at each stage. I also like the format of the book, with the practical know-how coming first and the more detailed history and explanations of hypnosis and its uses coming later on.The book is very well-written without any of those jarring typos and grammar glitches that so spoil the reading experience of any book and is one that I will be dipping in and out of for some time to come.Well done Rick!

Usually, people turn to hypnosis as a last result; after they have tried various other strategies to deal with their problem. If they visit a professional hypnotist for treatment then, at some point, they have to place themselves in the hands of the therapist and trust them. With self-hypnosis, that therapist is you! So how does it work? The answer to that question is why you are going to buy this book.Rick Smith, an expert in the field of hypnotism guides the reader step by step through a series of deep relaxation techniques until the 'trance' state of total relaxation of mind and body is reached. The exercises themselves are therapeutic and each time you repeat them, the deeper the resulting trance will be. So, in the first half of the book, the author teaches you how to achieve the trance state and in the second half of the book, he teaches you how to use the trance state to achieve your goals.The secret of the technique is in the human voice but, and it is an important but, the voice you are going to listen to is one that you must trust. So. included in the book are links to mp3 sound tracks covering different parts of the technique. You may either use these or make your own recording of the scripts which Mr. Smith also provides. It really is up to you which method you prefer. However, do not assume that if the voice you listen to is your own it will make things easier; there is a possibility that contrary to popular opinion, you might not like the sound of your own voice. In which case Mr. Smith's dulcet tones may be the answer.This is a brilliant book, clearly and concisely explained and eminently readable. If you really want to try self hypnosis and don't know anything about it, then you can do no better than to invest in your copy. It well teach you properly and serve you well.

I like this book because i was able to go into hypnosis immediately without any resistance at all. Time and time again i gotten the same results of going into a trans state. A really great book to us and i have found that Ricks voice is EXTREMELY effektive. What I have found most effective and important is that if one stretches all the muscles in the body by tensing up it makes it very easy to become relaxed and slip into hypnosis without any trouble at all. Thank You Rick! A Great Self Hypnos book!

Another specialty niche for me. Rick Smith has written one of the best in this genre. I am currently using his method and having success. This is NOT one of those "turn yourself into a robot-zombie and rule the world" junkers. It is a realistic, simply written book about how to put yourself into a hypnotic trance and work for self improvement or relaxation. Of the last 12 books I've ordered, this is clearly the best.

I needed to return my borrowed amazon prime book so I could get another one! I saw this. Trick! Only 8 pages with miss spelled words, pages that don't follow each other. Plus, it didn't work. The instructions were not for my old kindle. I went to Google for free!

Since I can no longer find a list of lending library books using a selection criteria on my PC I thought an "up to date" guide would help. Wrong. p.s. I did find a way to search that seems to be working. Using a PC, add a filter for "unlimited" even if you don't subscribe. If you find anything worth reading, use your Kindle device to search for that book by title and you can borrow from there.

Lending library is very difficult to find. There is no list that I could find. You just look up books individually and see if it's listed.

The step-by-step directions are no longer appropriate for locating and using the "lending library". Amazon references this as a benefit to their prime membership, and then makes it extremely difficult to utilize. I !ike my prime membership, but I want honest information about the benefits!

This book was a waste of time and $. It said absolutely nothing that is not said on the Prime lending site.

I thought as an Prime member I could access this for free but that is not the case. Don't bother with this. It is just a few pages long and you could google for the same information instead.

Not worth paying for. I was under the misconception that this item was free. Only 4 or 5 paragraphs long.

Did not get a good sense of how to use lending library. Cannot really recommend this book to anyone of my friends.
