This is a GREAT book. I hate spoilers (even tiny ones) but I can say it has been one heck of an emotional roller coaster ride. I've laughed, I've sighed, wanted to punch something (or someone), and I've cried. It's INTENSE and I can't walk away from it. Who knew the son is as great of a storyteller as his dad was a singer/songwriter. Dee

This is an awesome book to have! I read it all in one day and it was great learning all those new stuff about Waylon. Definitely gives you another perspective about him and one part in the story reminded me actually of an fictional character in an Aztec West story cause *SPOILERS* he had the same kinda deal with his leg as the character had. I hope he didn't get teased about it as a kid or something.Totally recommend this book 10/10

This is a son Terry Jennings, paying tribute to his Father of this earth, Waylon Jennings. If you love your Dad, if you loved Waylon, you will love this tribute. I understand the life he lived, because my Dad was a long distance truck driver. We have a special, some times difficult relationship with our Dads when they work on the road. My Dad was also my hero. This is a book about his HERO. This is a look into the life of a man who lived most kids dream, knowing your Dad as a friend. Yes, his life was different because he worked HARD for a living for his Dad. But he enjoyed the work and appreciates the blessing he was given. He acknowledges that he knows every adventure and mishap was a Blessing. Thank You for letting us see the life, the stumbles and the side of your Dad, through your eyes. I loved this book because it was written with unconditional love from a son to his unconventional father. I've read Waylon Jennings autobiography, Jessi Colter's book and now Terry's, I gotta say they're an honest bunch. I also am happy that Terry gave credit, where credit was due. God Bless You. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!

Just finished this journey. Wish it had been longer because I enjoyed it so much. I've read a lot of books about the true country artists. I grew up to all of their music and always felt a kinship because of it. When I was in the third grade Jennifer Jennings was in my class. I went to sleepovers at her house. Though I didn't really know who Waylon was at the time I knew he was someone special by listening to my parents speak of him. I was thrilled when Terry mentioned living in Mt. Juliet in his book. The most I remember from going over there was how beautiful and glamorous Jessi was. I also remember Jennifer's big brother bugging us. I did the math and from the book, I realized that would have been Terry. There's that kinship again! Thanks for the great read Terry. You were brave to tell some of the stories you did and I thank you for it! GODSPEED!

Fabulous read for any Waylon Jennings or Jessi Colter (Waylon's wife and the author's step-mom) fan. Terry Jennings goes into detail about life on the road with his "outlaw" dad (some in more detail than I would like, such as Waylon's hotel antics, but other people eat that up so I can see why son Terry included it). What I wondered as I read was how this "road kid" with a famous father whose wild lifestyle was almost as famous as his music has become someone who gently promotes Christianity today. Maybe it was the influence of his famous mother, Jessi Colter, which Terry made clear in the book, he adored and still does. Anyway, even if you've read Waylon's auto-bio, Terry Jennings' book is a worthy read because it comes though the eyes of a teen-young adult, which is a whole different perspective. And it's written casually, an easy to read bio. If you haven't read it yet, you are missing a great part of our GREAT Waylon's life.

I read this book in two sessions, took about 8 hours...I could not put it down. The insight and perspective puts you there as it was taking place. It was like watching a movie, and when it ended, it left me wanting more...which is a good thing. There were a few times that I could keep the tears from my eyes. This is a MUST read. Thank you so much Terry for sharing your stories, and I hope that you can do it again because I believe there is more to share that would make your dad proud.

I was introduced to Waylon Jennings by my uncles, they were some cool cats, used to take me and my brothers out fishing, and well I could write a book on that one.I grew up listening to Waylon loving every minute of it.I've always been curious about what happens on the road, what goes into productions like a traveling band.This book takes you on every side road and highway there was in the 70's through 2000.I enjoyed learning more about one of my heroes, and being a father, the relationship between a father and a son.Terry has done an outstanding job in delivering in both of these areas and so much more.This book is a must read for every real country fan and father out there, as Terry quoted Buffet" some of its magic, and some of its tragic, but I had a good life all the way"!Thank you Terry for showing us the inside of the Waylon machine, Godspeed brother!

Having just finished Warren Zanes' official bio of Tom Petty, one of the best music books I've ever read (and I've read hundreds), my expectations with this book may admittedly have been too high. But still, Jennings' book is only for the most hardcore Waylon fans. The word I'd use is "meandering". There's no context, through-line, plot, whatever you want to call it. Just a bunch of stories - many of which are uninteresting and pedantic - told rapid fire, one after the other. "Then we did this, then we did *this*, then Waylon did this...". Terry sounds like a nice guy and his admiration for his dad is admirable, sincere and heartfelt, but he's just out of his league relative to the true masters of music storytelling (or any experienced biographer, for that matter). A skilled editor could've worked wonders here, although the resulting book would have been whittled down to something more like a pamphlet. If you're a Jennings completist, then by all means check this out. But if you're looking for a well-organized, enlightening read, check out the Petty bio. It's amazing.

The pictures are very impressive and it's easy to lose track of time looking at them. My only qualm with the presentation is that many of the pictures are spread over two pages and, as such, the binding makes it difficult to view the entire image.

It's just OK. There is not enough descriptive information.

Includes pseudocode snippets that can be easily translated into any modern language (although why would you? This has been implemented in MATLAB, Octave and R a long time ago...) Highly and unconditionally recommended.

Good manual for numerical analysis but I wish it had more of a breakdown of the steps or examples which demonstrate the building blocks to get to the model used.

One of the most thorough and erudite books on numerical linear analysis available. The authors, Golub and Van Loan, are pioneers in matrix analysis. The review is encyclopedic. This is a great book to demonstrate the finer points of the art and to provide a bird's eye view of the subject. If you can't articulate differences in speed and accuracy between the LU decomposition, the QR decomposition, bidiagonalization, Householder reflections and Givens rotations, and the venerable singular value decomposition then this book is for you.My first copy has been worn out. This review was triggered when a replacement copy was ordered.

Cache data can get to the processor in 1-10 cycles, in a modern workstation processor, but main memory access costs 100-1000 cycles. TLB misses can cost many thousands of cycles, even when data is already in memory. Clearly, good data structures and well-orgnized access patterns can make a huge difference, but one that is mentioned only briefly. The section on parallel computation is brief and helpful, but overdue for review. The authors could never have foreseen today's multi-(thread, core, processor) systems, Blue Gene, or clusters.Still, this is an indispensable reference for someone in the thick of numerical computation. Most programmers would do better, in lots of ways, usingn the GNU Scientific Library or one of the other production-quality packages out there. They don't always do the job, though. Emerging architectures, include hardware threading and reconfigurable computing, need new implementations of even well-known algorithms. If you have big mathematical problems and machines too exotic for the standard tools, you're on your own. Numerical computing is such a large topic that no one book can possibly cover it all. In the end, though, many other problems reduce to linear systems, and that's where this comes in. It may not be theonly book you'll need, but you'll need it.//wiredweird

This is the first book any tester should read, as it will prime them to think the right way about what it is that we DO! If you are truly interested in increasing your skill-craft as a tester, then you should be heavily involved in the context-driven testing community, or which James Bach is the leader. The thing I love most about this book is that it does not have to be read from start to finish. It is divided up into over 200 lessons that are somewhat related but mostly can stand alone. These can be read in 5-15 minutes each, so a tester could digest these topics in their downtime or off-hours if you are really interested in becoming a better tester. Start with this book, then read James Bach's 'Secrets of a Buccaneer Scholar' and Daniel Khaneman's 'Thinking Fast and Slow'. You'll be off to a good start, then dive into the blogs (satisfice.com, developsense.com, etc.) and the rest of the community.

I usually hesitate to ever say "best", since I believe the best for me may not necessarily be the best for you. But if I had to pick just one book that I think would prove to be the most valuable across the widest range of readers, it would be Lessons Learned in Software Testing by Cem Kaner, James Bach, and Bret Pettichord.Lessons Learned is a terrific compilation of 293 "lessons" - short, real-world, easily-readable treatments of a range of topics relevant to new and seasoned testers, developers, managers, and executives. "Lessons learned in software testing" provides 293 lessons the authors learned during their many years working as software testers, test managers and consultants. This book is perhaps one of the most insightful books on testing ever written. It covers a broad range of testing issues and most of the topics are relevant outside the world of testing. To give an example, the authors discussions related to documentation, standards or licensing are not limited to testing. They clearly explain their thinking behind their arguments and parts like these are useful reads for anyone!The book is organized around 293 lessons which are a paragraph to a couple pages long. The lessons are organized around eleven chapters. At first, I was annoyed by the structure of the book, but as I got used to it, I started to appreciate the structure in different lessons. Especially since it helped the authors in expressing conflicting thoughts well.The first chapters cover the most basic questions. The first is about the role a tester has and already here the authors present a perhaps controversial view on testing as a service as opposed to as a quality police, which is often seen in larger organizations. The second chapter relates to how to think as a tester. It provides interesting references in completely different knowledge areas which might help testers become better. The third chapter is somewhat misplaced in the book, though still useful. It's a chapter that covers different testing techniques. It doesn't cover it thoroughly, but that is not the purpose of this book. For more thorough coverage of testing techniques, its probably better to pick up another book.The fourth chapter is about writing bugs. Its insightful since it especially clarifies a lot about the role of testing from the authors perspective. The fifth chapter covers test automation and makes important observations related to test automation... especially that test automation is not the same as automated manual testing. I found the wording insightful and again stresses the role of the tester and especially the skill of testers.Chapter six is perhaps one of the more controversial ones about documenting testing. As a logical conclusion from the focus on the role of tester (mentioned earlier), it makes sense to limit the documentation somewhat. Documentation is not a substitute for skill. However, they provide a balanced view and do not recommend to throw your documentation out of the window, but instead analyze your particular situation and create only the documentation that is needed.The next three chapters relate to working with other persons. First how to work with programmers, then how to manage a testing project and how to manage a testing group. Chapter ten relates to building a testing career. Also here, some of the advise is general to "a career", not specifically a testing one.The last chapter about strategy seemed to me somewhat odd. The book would have ended well with the manage your testing career and its not totally clear to me why the authors added this chapter still. It's not useless, just doesn't seem to fit in very well.All in all, the book is a good read! It's funny and very insightful and sometimes controversial. I was considering a rating of four or five stars. I was thinking about four since I did not always agree with the authors for example, on their views on test automation. Though, lots has been learned about that the last years! On the other hand, I do not know any more insightful book related to this subject. And, I'd even recommend it to people who do not do software testing at all! So, therefore I decided to go for five stars! Well worth reading!

I used this book for a trip to Southern Baja in April of 2017. I looked at a lot of other guide books before the trip, and this is the most comprehensive and current one that I found. The recommendations were all solid for Cabo San Lucas specifically. None of the books including this one had very useful information about snorkling in Cabo Pulmo or things to see and do in Todos Santos, so I suggest supplementing the book with some internet research before you leave.

We are frequent visitors to the peninsula over the last 20 years both overland and flying into La Paz or Los Cabos. I found this book pretty much spot on. I am amazed at the thoroughness and knowledge the author has of the area...from the 24hr bakery in Tecate, to Coco's corner, to Rexi's beach bar in Los Barriles How in the world could she have done all this? With the caveat that things change from week to week and month to month everywhere on the planet, I recommend this travel guide "hands down".

Excellent, up to date, many insider hints and recommendations. A real gem of a travel guide.

This is super detailed on all the areas we will be traveling through. Everything from suggestions on routes, where to eat and detailed street maps of each town. I can imagine it will be indispensable on our baja road trip

The book started out with a jolt, moving on to develop the characters. That's when it began it's slide towards mediocrity. Luke was downright boring. I would imagine violins playing in my imagination as his character was developed.Ella was interesting in the beginning but in the middle of the story her personality did a 180. She became detestable, killing innocent people, Including children.The only enjoyable character came at the end of the story with the introduction of Dan Borowski.For me, I wish I hadn't plowed through it. There will never be enough time to read all of the good books we have to choose from.

A very sad story and quite strange. This reader has difficulty with the characters, they are poorly developed and the interactions between them is hazy at best. The "why" we do things is not developed at all. Bizarre.

How disappointing... a really gripping and riveting first 40 pages or so, then... deadness. Once they arrive in Switzerland the book is basically over. I nearly gave up reading several times, I kept expecting excitement to return, but it never did. The coldness of Ella, the still undeveloped ending explaining why things happened the way they did simply never occurred. I'm not sure it even rates 3 stars. I'm being generous because the beginning was so strong. But how did this get so many 4 and 5 stars?

Glad I only read a few reviews before I read this book .I enjoyed it. It wasn't my favorite Wignall book, but I did appreciate how he handled most of the characters .I did want to keep turning the pages. I went back and read all of the reviews to this date. The reviews have made me aware of how easy it is to spoil the book, for those who haven't read it yet. I'm going to be more careful in the future to reread my review before I submit it. If I wouldn't want to have this information before I read the book, I'm writing Spoiler Alert in the title of my review.

I didn't finish this book. I didn't like the back and forth between Ella's situation and Lucas's attempts at redemption with his daughter. Pick a plot and stick to it please! I especially didn't like the way Ella's personality took a turn in seeking revenge. About 2/3 of the way through I skipped through to the end to see what happened. Glad I didn't waste anymore time slogging through it.

I felt that this book was a lot shorter than the movie led us to believe. The movie can't have been memorable or i don't remember the ending. However the abrupt ending with the plot twist were a nice touch. There is great but short prose as if the author was writing a draft. He intentionally only develops the bare minimum characters required to tell his story.I wondered why 17 readers highlighted the introduction of the two lead detectives. I realise now that that was the fullest those two characters would be developed. In fact, the law detective is not seen again from that point.There was allusion to Luke's ability to influence police investigations. That plot line was either unexplored or removed.All in all this book read like one of those Wikipedia articles that tell you the entire movie but title the section, synopsis. I am glad there is a !love for this book otherwise it would monumentally suck.

This book strangely enough lacked humanity except from Lucas, the hired killer. The character of Ella did not seem well developed-going from tragedy to a complete change whereas the character of Lucas saw growth. There is a lot of violence but not much warmth and emotions, lacked adequate plot development. Left me cold.

Treading carefully with her tone, she said, "Lucas?" She caught his eyes in the rearview and felt confident enough to proceed. "Why did you shoot him in the head?" "He was wearing body armor." "How do you know?" "Because he didn't bleed enough when I shot him the first time."Ella Hatto and Stephen Lucas (FOR THE DOGS)The above snippet of conversation between Ella and Lucas gives you an idea of what kind of man Lucas is. He's well-read, introspective, dispassionate, and deadly. Too, he is trying to retire from being a "killer for hire" and hoping to live a normal life. The kind of life he could have had with Madeleine, the only woman he has ever truly loved, and the daughter he has never seen.FOR THE DOGS is interesting in that the reader is drawn into the story and sees the gradual transformation of both Ella and Lucas, the two main characters. He finds what he needs. She gets what she deserves, and more.This is the first book by Kevin Wignall I've read and will soon begin reading his debut novel PEOPLE DIE. While I am a big fan of Stephen Leather's action packed books, Wignall could become one of my favorite British writers.
