When ordering books online it is a bit of a gamble. but sometimes it pays of unexpectantly. this is a beautiful over sized book with many facial sketches thru out various stages to learn from. the over size pics make it easier to see the techniques. I am very very happy.

My 20 year old step daughter has been in a program for several months and asked me if I could get her some art supplies to help her pass the down time she has. I tried to focus on things that would be of a relaxing nature and/or help her express herself and/or help her find hobbies that she loves enough to carry on with once she's back out in the world so that she has positive things to focus on (possibly things she could turn into a career, as well). I did a ridiculous amount of research to find the right drawing book for her and after reading the reviews and the description of this one I was sold! Besides all of the awesome reviews, there's two other details that made this one the winner; 1. The price (but, of course~lol). 2. More bang for your 💵.It teaches you about 2 different mediums (painting and drawing) so since it was important for me to get as many quality products as I could for as little $$ as possible, I couldn't go wrong 👍😁. I do regret that I didn't have the opportunity to check it out prior to sending it to her (for my own curiosity and so I could give an informative review). Her box of supplies (and a few other miscellaneous items) had been collecting dust on my livingroom floor for months and I didn't want her to have to wait any longer (and I was tired of 👀 at it~lol). After I placed the order for the book I had to wait a pretty lengthy amount of time for it to arrive and although I was informed of this (and accepted it), I had to knock off one ⭐ for it's 🐌 paced arrival.

Excellent for a beginner artist. Easy to understand, not too complicated, yet covers all aspects of the face. Bought as a gift for a new artist and already she's progressed at an amazing speed thanks, in part, to this little book.

I have enjoyed this book immensely. I recently began painting. One of the areas I need to learn and practice is drawing realistic human faces. The author's diagrams and words are easy to understand. I've been a doodler all my life but could only draw faces that look like cartoons. With the help of this book, I've been able to draw realistic pictures. Thank you Debra Kaufman Yaun. I'm very grateful.

This book is more of a diary of Antunes' experience working on his own project, as opposed to a technical manual that would be more familiar to a professional engineer. That said, if you are an engineer and you are interested in this subject, you are likely in a position to be able to fill in the gaps easily from the myriad pointers provided. What I found most enjoyable was the narrative of someone's spirit of adventure and creativity; Antunes has a goal, and he does what is necessary to make it happen. A lot of exploration, trial and error, good-enough-now-let's-move-on-to-the-next-problem, beg/borrow/steal other useful ideas, and all the ups and downs that are part of a real labor of love.

The author clearly implies in the early pages of this book, that unless you have at least $12,000.00 there is no reason for you to continue. What more can I say?

Practical, straightforward system level approach. It does not include every formula you could ever need, but omitting that detail limits the book to a reasonable length.

This short book is radiating with the joy of creating something that can actually go into space.It's obviously written with the maker approach, don't expect the MIT course on satellite engineering for $3.57.But to feel what it takes to build a working satellite in your basement, and start to think that space exploration may really be a home project - complete with costs, suppliers and schedules - this is a good starting point.

An excellent book on how the big guys are built is available. But this says it all. How someone could go ahead and build the simplest variety of satellite.

He will win it through the gospel of Jesus Christ. This gospel will run and triumph through prevailing prayer-so that in everything God might be glorified through Jesus Christ.pg. 703. The Supremacy of God in Missions through SufferingYou cannot show the preciousness of a person by being happy with his gifts. Ingratitude will certainly prove that the giver is not loved, but gratitude for gifts does not prove that the giver is precious. What proves that the giver is precious is the glad-hearted readiness to leave all his gifts to be with him. This is why suffering is so central in the mission of the church. The goal of our mission is that people from all the nations worship the true God. But worship means cherishing the preciousness of God above all else, including life itself. It will be difficult to bring the nations to love God from a lifestyle that communicates a love of things. Therefore, God ordains in the lives of his messengers that suffering severs our bondage to the world. When joy and love survive this severing, we are fit to say to the nations with authenticity and power: Hope in God.pg. 101Part 2: Making God Supreme in Missions: The Necessity and Nature of the Task4. The Supremacy of Christ as the Conscious Focus of All Saving FaithTherefore, the church is bound to engage with the Lord of glory in his cause. Charles Hodge is right that “the solemn question, implied in the language of the apostle, how can they believe without a preacher? should sound day and night in the ears of the churches.” It is our unspeakable privilege to be caught up with him in the greatest movement in history-the ingathering of the elect “from all tribes and languages and peoples and nations” until the full number of the Gentiles comes in, all Israel is saved, the Son of Man descends with power and great glory as King of kings and Lord of lords, and the earth is full of the knowledge of his glory as the waters cover the sea forever and ever. Then the supremacy of Christ will be manifest to all, he will deliver the kingdom to God the Father, and God will be all in all.pg. 1545. The Supremacy of God Among “All the Nations”This chapter shows that God’s call for missions in Scripture cannot be defined in terms of crossing cultures to maximize the total number of individuals saved. Rather, God’s will for missions is that every people group be reached with the testimony of Christ and that a people be called out for his name from all the nations. I believe that this definition of missions will in fact result in the greatest possible number of white-hot worshipers for God’s Son. But that remains for God to decide. Our responsibility is to define missions his way and then obey.pg. 157Part 3: Making God Supreme in Missions: The Practical Outworking of Compassion and Worship6. A Passion for God’s Supremacy and Compassion for Man’s Soul: Jonathan Edwards on the Unity of Motives for World MissionsEdwards was always asking about the ultimate end of things, because once we know and embrace the final and highest reason that we and the church and the nations exist, then all our thinking and all our feeling and all our acting will be governed by that aim. …Edwards was absolutely clear on the ultimate question of why all things exist, including you and me and the church universal and the nations and history. He was absolutely clear on it because God was absolutely clear on it. Edwards wrote a book called ‘The End For Which God Created the World.’ In my own thinking, it is the most important thing he ever wrote. Once we understand what he wrote there, everything-absolutely everything-changes. His answer to the question, What is the ultimate goal of creation and history and redemption and your life and everything else? is this: “All that is ever spoken of in the Scripture as an ultimate end of God’s works, is included in that one phrase, the glory of God.”pg. 203-204The first great passion of missions, therefore, is to honor the glory of God by restoring the rightful place of God in the hearts of people who presently think, feel, and act in ways that dishonor God every day, and in particular, to do this by bringing forth a worshiping people from among all the unreached peoples of the world. If you love the glory of God, you cannot be indifferent to missions. This is the ultimate reason Jesus Christ came into the world. Romans 15:8-9 says, “Christ became a servant to the circumcised … in order that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy.” Christ came to get glory for his Father among the nations. If you love what Jesus Christ came to accomplish, you love missions.pg. 2087. The Inner Simplicity and Outer Freedom of Worldwide WorshipSo I believe it can be shown biblically that all our behavior should he motivated by a deeply freeing taste of God’s goodness and a thirst for- more and more satisfaction in God. …When our whole life is consumed with pursuing satisfaction in God, everything we do highlights the value and worth of God, which simply means that everything becomes worship. May God make himself-manifest fully in Jesus Christ-that precious to us.That is what I am referring to when I say, “Missions is not the ultimate goal of the church. Worship is.” Our goal is to see that experience happen among all the peoples of the world. May the power of the gospel waken the dead, bring them from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, so that they see him and savor him with all their hearts. And may they be so radically satisfied in him that they are freed from the fears and pleasures of this world and follow Jesus on the Calvary road of love. Then others will see their good works and give glory to their Father in heaven-and the Word will go on from glory to glory.pg. 230

Excellent, foundational and necessary book on the topic of church missions. In true Piper fashion, the book is extremely God-centered with a focus on God's glory for the joy of all nations in Jesus Christ. Although the book is true to Piper's life and ministry purpose, the large majority of the content is unique to this book and not simply a rehashing of what is covered in Desiring God. There are many books that discuss the "what" and "how" of Christian missions, but Let The Nations Be Glad does a great job in explaining the "why" behind missions. Guided my study in preparing a short sermon on the topic. Definitely worth the read!

While personally I am not a big fan of John Piper, this book is one of a kind. It opens with one ot the most beautiful illustrations as to why missions even exists, a paragraph worth memorizing. The subject matter is that which is of utmost importance, what we have been commanded to do, in one way or another. Usually a book on world missions consists of a biography, fund development, or a how to, but this book walks through the biblical basis both for missions and for a church focused on more than itself. This is the apex of global mission books!

JohnPiper is a wonderful theologian. I enjoyed the book, learned a lot and after some thinking and review will be able to apply the principals in the book. However, I do have this... Once again JP is a wonderful communicator of biblical principals but at times the writing was not only in the weeds it was in the dirt, I.e. Very particular and very thorough.Recommend yes but have a lot of patience to absorb and understand what JP is writining.

A biblical understanding of why we're here and what we're supposed to be doing while we're here. Really explains what missions is and why we need go to all the people of the world.I believe It is the most important book on missions yet.

Great book to use for group study! My life group at church is going through the DVD series and book together, and I love it. John Piper is an amazing theologian and truly has a heart for missions and seeing the world come to salvific faith in Christ.

I'm a big fan of the .hack franchise, and this book (along with the "Legend of the Twilight" series) were among my least favorite, perhaps because they targeted a much younger audience. Big fans will still want it because it includes a description of "The One Sin," an event frequently referred to elsewhere in the series; and if you're younger, it's not a bad starting point to get into the franchise.Casual fans might want to skip this, though, and go straight for the second "AI Buster" book, which is a collection of short stories. (This is a single long story.)Note that this is NOT manga, it is a text story.

This novel is a prequel to the .hack anime, games, and manga. It is set shortly before the anime, Sign, and tells the story of Albireo, a player in very popular online role-playing game The World, and the mysterious AI girl he encounters in a dungeon.Albireo is a solo adventurer in The World -- he is proud to have gotten his character to a high level playing on his own. One day while playing the game, he encounters a silent little girl in red, Lycoris, who is a NPC (non-player character, or AI). Meeting her activates an event that he is determined to finish. Shortly after, he runs into an annoying newbie player, Hokuto, who knows nothing about the right way to play the game. Alibreo is desperate to get rid of Hokuto, but she blackmails him into playing with her. So Albireo is forced to try to complete the Lycoris event with annoying Hokuto following him around. Along the way he uncovers some surprising truths about how The World really works.As a fan of the other .hack stories (the games, animes, and manga), I was very glad to see this novel translated into English. It gives a more detailed backstory for the creation of The World and helps set the scene for the events that take place in the later stories. I'd highly recommend this novel to all .hack fans, and if you're new to The World, this is a great book to start with.

Well...unlike the other person, I actually had read the book. I'm both a .hack//fan, anime fan and gamer fan so...this book seemed to suit me.For all who are .hack//fans, this book takes place before .hack//sign and the games, this is during the time when Orca and Balmung were not that well known, but it's also the time when they became the legends they are in the series that are out. It's got a few other characters as well, a new one never seen else where, Albireo, who is also the main character, and Hokuto, another main character. Albireo, is a very experience player, he was in during the beta verison of the game, Fragment. He is a very high level, and might even to be considered as high as or a little higher then Orca and Balmung. He usually solos areas and got very strong that way. Hokuto, is a newbie to the world. With only a weeks worth of experience, she makes a lot of mistakes through out the story. She is also to be considered to be around junior-high or high-school because of her obnoxious attitude. She is a very fun character to read however, and many of the interactions with her and Albireo give a good laugh. They also come across a small little girl, not to be confused with Aura, she is described and in some of the pictures, looks a lot like her, but one thing sets them apart is both her name, Lycoris and her red dress. Lycoris, is a varient AI, and needed Albireo's help to find the items she scattered, to hide from someone.This is probably one of the best reading material, for people who are new to .hack or mmorpgs. There is a lot of explanation in it, from NPCs to how the world is played. But, it still has the same .hack action that is loved by all fans.I enjoyed this book a lot, and couldn't let it down till I finished. I would recommend this to any .hack//fan (this has a lot of answers to a couple of questions, scattered throughout the series, but it also provides new questions to ponder), any RPG fan (it's pretty fun, I thought to read a book about a fantasy mmorpg.), anyone who has not seen any .hack or has seen a few episodes/played the game a couple of times (tons of explanation, terms and that, that can help you understand what's going on in the .hack series), any fan of an anime with both comedy and action (this is so much like a manga, but with a lot more explanation to it and less pictures....but there still are a couple of very nice pictures in it) and to anyone who wants to read a very good fantasy novel.This is also a nice novel to see what an mmorpg is really like. Albiero explains a lot of stuff relating to mmorpgs, seeming that not all fans are hardcore players.So, pick it up if your intrested in games, .hack, or anime. Very nice book, and quite addicting once you get close into it.I'm very eager to see the next one as well.

This story...is one that brings me to tears every time I read it. Chronologically it is the first story in the .hack Timeline, and as such several elements in it are not seen in the main games and Sign.however, it's event shave greater connotations for the franchise as a whole, and if you are at all interested in .hack and it's greater franchise mythos, it is not one to miss.

Emily King, author of “The Hundredth Queen,” displays her talents in this first entry to her series. While her descriptions and use of words are her strength, other elements of the book work against her. Here's a quick rundown, without spoilers:THE PLOT – Kalinda, a member of the Sisterhood, is chosen by the current Rajah as his hundredth wife.Proving yourself in battle is necessary, both in the Sisterhood and at the palace. Everyone vies to be elevated, higher ranks determined by victory in the ring.Everything about this story screams predictability. Unfortunately, the author never recognizes the danger and continues to steer the reader in that direction. It is obvious that Kalinda will have feelings for the young soldier, Deven, just as it is obvious he feels the same way. What makes little sense is that Deven understands the world as it is, yet immediately breaks convention and is willing to risk his life by granting favors to Kalinda. The rules dictating death to a queen who is unfaithful never causes Kalinda to waiver from her infatuation with Deven. Once in the palace, Kalinda faces the expected danger from her Sisterhood rival Natesa as well as Lakia, first among the Rajah’s wives.THE WRITING – This is the author’s five-star strength. The description is consistent, and reflects a time of long ago. Ms. King’s elegant style deftly describes the action, weaving pictures that effortlessly wrap the reader in the story.THE WORLD – One wishes for more details describing Kalinda’s world of religion and male dominance. Some of the inconsistencies concerning the relationship between herself and Deven might have made more sense, but defining the culture never gets past a few scrapes off the surface. While the action is wonderfully explained, I wished to learn more about the social mores. Most of what we glean, however, comes in bits and dribbles inserted when something happens and readers must know why. While there was enough to keep me interested, I wished for more.IN CASE YOU WANTED TO KNOW – Ms. King steers away from using any sort of foul language, and you could read this story to a child without worry. Sex is non-existent, and though sexual tension is present, nothing is written that would make you blush.OVERALL – The writing is strong, and almost makes one forget that the plot is unremarkable. Images of The Hunger Games flit constantly, casting a pall over the originality of the tale. While Kalinda’s character is best defined, many of the others are one-dimensional, including Natesa, Deven, and Lakia. Motivations are reduced to one reason rather than a myriad of choices, which lessens the reader’s engagement. I did find Ms. King’s use of words and consistency of style to be enough to keep me reading. However, this is a three-and-a-half star book at best, and though the talented description of the action is strong, the lack of developed characters prevent the total ranking from reaching four.

At around 60% into this book, I had to revisit Amazon and Goodreads to make sure I was reading the right book. This book has such high ratings and received so much praise but I didn't enjoy it. I felt that it wasn't successful as a historical fiction and it was predictable as a romance. That said, I don't think it was terrible, just... an average romance novel. I think my disappointment came because it has such a high rating that I was expecting something of better quality - if it hadn't been on that pedestal, I think it would have been acceptably okay for the genre.While several reviews have criticized world building, I thought that was passable. There wasn't anything of Sumerian mythology beyond the names of the gods - everything was made up to suit the plot. So if you think, as I thought, that the story would build on what we know of the mythology to create its plot, you'll be disappointed. The myth underlying the story wasn't clearly told - important parts would be told just before they helped the story so that it felt like the author was making it up as she went along but eventually I understood it. There were a few other things that kept taking me out of the story, namely the use of books. At a time when parchment would have been very expensive and rare, if it existed at all, the main character has a sketchbook, ordinary soldiers keep diaries, etc. The guest room has a book case of books that can be slammed shut - no one uses scrolls in this place.Several reviews have also complained about characters being undeveloped. I don't know - they weren't completely one dimensional - they had positive and negative characteristics... there were some incomplete and inconsistent backstories but then, the story is told from one character's point of view so of course she doesn't know everything. Plus, maybe the characters were really meant to be that careless, annoying and stupid.There were no plot twists - I figured things out chapters before they were revealed and I'm not one of those intuitive geniuses who always figures it out. I like to let the story unfold. This one was just so predictable that there were no surprises.So I can't really recommend this book and I definitely won't be reading on, but I didn't think it was any worse than the average romance novel... just not any better either.
